Communities across Lanark County are preparing to mark International Women’s Day with local events, reflection, and renewed calls for gender equality.
International Women’s Day, held annually on March 8, highlights the achievements of women and promotes progress on issues such as equality, safety, and opportunity. This year’s theme is “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls.”
Erin Lee, executive director of Lanark County Interval House, says the day has grown into a global movement focused on collective action and equality.
Lee says International Women’s Day is also an opportunity to continue breaking down barriers that affect women around the world.
Several events are planned locally on March 8.
Other activities include a women-focused retreat day at Maplestone Ranch and Retreat, with proceeds supporting Lanark County Interval House, and a Canadian Federation of University Women event in Perth.
Lee encourages residents to take part, volunteer, or simply reflect on the contributions of women in their communities.
