It’s official: Lanark County community smashes fundraising goal to support homeless youth
A winter fundraising walk aimed at helping young people facing homelessness in Lanark County has exceeded expectations by a wide margin.
Cornerstone Landing says its recent Coldest Night of the Year event raised more than $61,000, reaching 152 per cent of its $40,000 fundraising goal.
The annual walk brings community members together to raise money for programs that support youth experiencing homelessness in the region.
Funds from this year’s event will help provide rent supplements, housing support and life-stability programs designed to help young people build a more secure future.
One youth who has benefited from the rent supplement program shared how important the support has been.
“Without it, OW would’ve paid for an apartment for me to starve in. Now I can eat and go to school.”
Organizers thanked major partners including United Way East Ontario, Home Depot, W.O. Stinson, Fine Design – Signs to Go, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, The Falls Food Hub, and volunteers from CFUW Perth and District.
They say the community’s support is helping create brighter futures for local youth.
