Montague Township is moving to tighten its election sign rules ahead of the next municipal vote.
Council supported a recommendation during its March 3 meeting to amend the township’s election sign bylaw. The proposed change would prevent campaign signs from being posted until 2 p.m. on nomination day.
If approved, the rule would take effect during the 2026 municipal election cycle, allowing signs to go up beginning Aug. 21.
Township officials say the change is meant to create a clearer and more consistent timeline for candidates and residents as campaigns begin to ramp up.
Council approved the recommendation in principle this week. The bylaw amendment will return to council for final approval at its March 17 meeting.
Municipal elections across Ontario are scheduled for Oct. 26, 2026.
