A new dementia health hub set to open this spring in Smiths Falls is expected to make accessing care simpler for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive conditions.
The Alzheimer Society Lanark Leeds Grenville says the facility at 88 Cornelia Street will bring programs, support services and visiting health providers together in one familiar location.
Sarah Cavanagh, coordinator of fund development and communications, tells our Lynda D’Aoust the idea grew from conversations with families struggling to attend multiple appointments in different places.
The hub will allow several programs to run at once, including adult day services, caregiver support groups and Minds in Motion brain-health activities.
Cavanagh tells Lynda it will also feature clinical rooms for partner services such as foot care, vaccine clinics and hair care.
Cavanagh says familiar surroundings can reduce stress for people with dementia.
Programs will roll out gradually once renovations are complete.
