The Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation has expanded its protected lands with the acquisition of a 250-acre property, including 210 acres of wetlands.
Officials say the move strengthens environmental protection across the Rideau Valley watershed, helping support flood mitigation, water filtration, carbon storage and wildlife habitat.
Executive Director Diane Downey says the land will connect with existing forests, shorelines and meadows to create a stronger, more resilient ecosystem.
The project was supported by the City of Ottawa, Ducks Unlimited Canada and Scout Clean Energy, along with local partners and landowners.
Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe says protecting wetlands delivers long-term environmental and community benefits, including improved water quality and reduced flood risk.
With this addition, the foundation now owns nearly 3,000 acres of conservation land and supports the protection of thousands more across the watershed.
The organization is encouraging landowners to consider donating property to help preserve natural spaces for future generations
