Young people in our listening area are getting a rare chance this week to explore a part-time job that promises travel, skills and steady pay.
Recruiters from HMCS Cataraqui, the Naval Reserve Division in Kingston, have set up at the Conlon Farm Recreation Complex to meet potential applicants face to face.
Lieutenant Keiran Mcdonald says Perth was chosen because of its location between Kingston and Ottawa, making it accessible to a wide regional population.
Anyone who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident aged 16 to 57 with at least Grade 10 education can apply. Recruiters are also helping people begin the process on site.
Mcdonald says successful applicants can train locally during the school year, then complete summer training in Quebec — all paid.
He adds that part-time reservists can balance civilian life while gaining specialized skills, leadership experience and benefits.
Recruiters remain at the complex through March 29. Applicants should bring identification, school records and, if under 18, a parent or guardian.
