At Mississippi Mills council’s recent committee meeting a motion to approve a policy for hard surface roadway prioritization was on the agenda.
It laid out the formula staff would use to determine which roads were rehabilitated and resurfaced during the construction season without providing a detailed list of the projects to council for discussion.
Councillor Bev Holmes was opposed to that process.
Other councillors such as Jane Torrance and Mary-Lou Souter agreed with Holmes.
Mayor Christa Lowry thought that with an agreed-upon policy it would put council in the governance role and would leave technical operations and decisions to expert and experienced staff.
At the end of a prolonged discussion, the motion was amended to bring detailed road reports to council for discussion before road projects went out for tender.
