Monday, March 30th marked the finish line for Waves for Hospice, a new fundraiser for the Hospice Hub. The seven-week challenge urged swimmers to complete lap swims, participate in family swims, or take aquafit classes and gather pledges to help reach the Hub’s $20K goal. At a wrap-up ceremony at the Perth indoor pool, Lesley Renwick of the Hub expressed her gratitude for those that got in the swim of things.
Hospice Hub’s ED Mary Lou Hussak said her organization has big plans going forward.
Renwick told the assembled swimmers that they had managed to raise $19,753 at the close of the challenge, when Isabel Anne McRae (the originator of the idea) came forward with a handful of cash,.
That put the Hub’s goal over the bar, bringing the total to $20,138. A kick-off luncheon with Canadian marathon swimming legend Vicki Keith brought in almost $2K more. McRae reached her personal goal of swimming the equivalent of 53 miles to match Keith’s distance in swimming across Lake Ontario.
