In the fall of 2025, Stantec Consulting began working on preparing conceptual options to improve Centennial Park in Carleton Place, (just across the river from Riverside Park). Staff presented two options to council’s committee on April 7th.
One option involved the removal of the existing soccer pitch. Plans included improved vehicle entrance and parking paving, accessible walking trails connecting to the O-Kee-Lee trail, a boardwalk/deck along the eastern waterfront of the park, shoreline restoration and expanded beach area, shaded seating, accessible change-rooms, and the inclusion of existing boat docks and more.
Councillors suggested adding a half-court basketball feature and removing any recreation features that required visitors to bring game equipment such as a bocce area or chess tables.
One suggestion to include accessible washrooms and potable water stations was turned down due to the lack of municipal water and sewer services on the site. After discussion, the option to remove the soccer pitch was turned down, and portable washrooms would continue to be used.
Staff was instructed to have the consultant complete cost estimates and bring them back for further discussion. Staff confirmed development charges would fund the improvements.
