Warmer weather is bringing more bicycles onto Smiths Falls streets, and police are reminding families that spring is the right time to focus on safety.
Const. Sean Keogan of the Smiths Falls Police Service says officers are again promoting helmet use and safe riding habits, while also reviving a popular positive ticketing program.
Children spotted wearing helmets can receive slushie tickets through a partnership involving Crime Stoppers and Circle K, a program Keogan says helps make police interactions positive and fun.

Keogan says the giveaways also reinforce road safety at a young age.
He says motorists, cyclists and pedestrians all need to stay alert as traffic volumes rise in spring.
Police say the initiative will continue through summer.
