The Ontario Provincial Police in Lanark County are warning residents about distraction thefts following a recent incident in Carleton Place.
Police say on April 26, a senior was approached by a woman asking her to try on a bracelet. During the interaction, the suspect is believed to have removed the victim’s necklace without her noticing. A similar attempt was reported later the same day involving another woman, but nothing was stolen.
Officers say these scams often involve physical contact, fake jewelry offers, or staged distractions. Residents are urged to stay aware, keep valuables secure, maintain personal space, and report suspicious activity.
