Hal Hughes was a police officer with the Perth Police Service and then the OPP, before becoming a registered clinical psychotherapist. He has a busy counselling practice just outside of Smiths Falls, built around the philosophy of sound mind supported by a strong body.
He practices what he preaches as both an ultra-marathon runner and avid follower of Stoic Philosophy.
He notes the most common issues, he and his team deal with regularly.
When it comes to the risks to youth from over-exposure to social media and device screen time, Hughes is a firm believer of putting something else in children’s hands, like a hockey stick or baseball glove.
In his own home, the method he uses with his children is to require some type of extra-curricular activity of their choosing rather than doom scrolling.
But he stresses that parents have major responsibilities in these interactions by being appropriate role models
Hughes believes that truth is the foundation for change, and he will not shy away from helping his clients get to some of those truths that are hidden in the dark. His therapeutic approach centres around progress and solution focused strategies to create movement forward for the client. Learn more at halhughes.com.
