The Smiths Falls Police Services Board are set to approve their new policies at their June 16th meeting.
There’s been concern from some town residents about the transparency of the board’s new and old policies
A letter submitted April 1st by resident Kelley Denham highlighted gaps in the board’s policies which she described as “daily risks,” for the board’s oversight of the SFPS.
Provincial Appointee Andrew Howard said during the April board meeting public input would be part of the review process.
However Deputy Chair Shawn Pankow said this week that public input won’t be considered until the policies are approved.
Pankow and Howard made up the working group that reviewed the proposed policies, which were submitted by a hired consultant earlier this year.
The board decided to not approve the new policies this month, allowing more time for each member to further review the changes before expressing their support or opposition.
