The third annual Hike for Hospice is returning to Perth later this month with a new feature organizers hope will leave a lasting emotional impact across the community.
The fundraiser for the Hospice Hub will take place Sunday, May 24, beginning at the Crystal Palace in Perth.
Participants can choose between one-kilometre and five-kilometre routes through the town and Last Duel Park before finishing at Bridge Masters Brewing Company.
This year’s event is presented by Canadian Tire locations in Perth and Smiths Falls.
Hospice Hub fundraising and stewardship assistant Lesley Renwick said organizers are especially excited about a new legacy tree display that will allow hikers to honour loved ones during the event.
Renwick said participants will be able to add names, hearts, butterflies and messages to the painted tree throughout the morning, turning it into what she described as a living tribute filled with memories and love.
Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m., with the official start at 11 a.m. Renwick said the event is about more than fundraising, calling it a chance for the community to stand together in support of compassionate end-of-life care.
People can register individually, create teams or donate through the Hospice Hub website.
