Smiths Falls Police Chief Jodi Empey presented the 2025 annual report to the police services board last week.
There were 343 domestic disturbance incidents in 2025, up from 273 in 2024. That’s over a 25% increase, which Empey said it stems from public awareness.
The report shows there was a 33% increase in criminal harassment incidents (77) from 2024 (58).
Empey says that can be attributed to additional focus and training on intimate partner violence investigations, to which these charges often stem from.
In total, there were 7,745 calls for service in 2025, down from 8,143 in 2024.
The SFPS had a 70% clearance rate in violent crime offences in 2025, concluding 180 of 257 instances.
They cleared just over a quarter of property crime calls, about 5% less than in 2024, and cleared all 15 drug cases in 2025.
Smiths Falls Police also laid 22 impaired driving charges in 2025, a 340% increase from the five charges laid in 2024.
Empey attributes that to proactive patrolling.
The SFPS also assisted the OPP with 220 calls in 2025, and aided other police services 38 times.
