The Evergreen Avenue project in Smiths Falls is bringing remembrance, community pride and environmental education together.
Co-chair Peter Au says the Victoria Park project began as a way to turn a muddy walkway into something more welcoming.
Ken Manwell says the site helps people reflect on those who shaped the community.
A gathering is planned for June 7 at the Smiths Falls Legion, in the Lancaster Room, from 1 to 4 p.m. This year’s plaques will honour Vietnam War veteran Mike Quigley, along with community leaders Robert and Lee Hitchkins.
Manwell says the project continues to grow.
The event will also include remarks on D-Day and two environmental awards for young people.
Those planning to attend are asked to call the Legion office at 613-283-2690 to reserve a spot.
