Parrot Partners Canada is a Carleton Place-based charitable organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, training, and re-homing of parrots and other exotic birds.
Operating from its aviary on Industrial Avenue, the non-profit cares for surrendered and rescued birds while helping prepare them for adoption into suitable long-term homes.
Executive Director Judy Tennant explains why the aviary is needed.
Beyond rescue work, Parrot Partners Canada also focuses heavily on public education.
This focus is critical because an ill-informed owner can face severe risks by accepting a large or medium sized exotic bird into their home as Tennant tells us.
Tennant says careful training and rehab can help make these birds great companions for the right homes.
Through guided aviary visits, training sessions, and outreach programs, the organization teaches residents about the challenges parrots face in captivity and in the wild, while promoting responsible ownership of what can be highly social, extremely intelligent, and long-lived companion animals.
