The mayor of Smiths Falls is condemning what he calls a disturbing act of discrimination after graffiti appeared on Town property overnight.
In a statement released Thursday, Mayor Shawn Pankow said the graffiti was “completely out of line with the values of Smiths Falls and the people who call this community home.”
Pankow said the Town is working closely with the Smiths Falls Police Service to identify those responsible and pursue accountability.
“This behaviour will not be tolerated in our community,” he said.
Town staff began removing the graffiti Thursday morning and restoring the affected areas.
Pankow thanked staff for their quick response and said Smiths Falls “stands for respect, inclusion, and kindness.”
“Hate has no place here, and we will continue to stand together as a community in support of one another,” the statement said.
