Police in Smiths Falls say three people are facing charges after a theft from a vehicle led to fraudulent bank transactions.
The investigation by the Smiths Falls Police Service began April 3, 2026, after a wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle entered overnight. The victim later noticed suspicious activity on their bank account.
Officers used security surveillance footage to identify three suspects. One day later, while on proactive patrol, police arrested a 54-year-old local resident without incident.
Harry Richert is charged with theft, possession of property obtained by crime and use of a credit card. He was released on conditions with a future court date.
On April 23, police, with help from the OPP R.O.P.E. Unit, arrested two more suspects.
Jordan Wilkinson, 37, and Tyler Pretty, 38, both of Smiths Falls, face the same charges. Pretty is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order.
Wilkinson and Pretty were held in custody pending bail hearings.
Police remind residents to lock vehicles and report suspicious activity.
