Smiths Falls Police say one arrest has been made after vandalism damaged the Pride crosswalk and Town Hall gazebo.
Police say one person has been charged with mischief over $5,000. The charge has not been proven in court.
The investigation is not over. Police say officers are still looking into other suspects and more arrests may follow.
The vandalism was reported after orange graffiti was found on one of the rainbow crosswalks and on the white gazebo near Town Hall. The wording was not released out of respect for the community.
Town officials say the damaged areas were restored the next morning. The crosswalks had recently been repainted ahead of Pride Month.
Mayor Shawn Pankow condemned the incident in a statement, calling it an act of discrimination and intolerance.
Police say multiple suspects are currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Smiths Falls Police.
The incident has raised concern in the community, but town officials say Smiths Falls remains committed to respect, inclusion and kindness.
