A Beckwith Township resident is facing impaired driving charges after a traffic stop in Mississippi Mills Township.
The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police says an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Tatlock Road on Sunday, May 31, just after 5:30 p.m., when a vehicle was stopped.
Police say the driver was spoken to at the roadside and was then arrested. The driver was taken to the OPP detachment in Perth for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, 29-year-old Charles Lewis of Beckwith Township has been charged with operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration over 80, operation while impaired — alcohol, and speeding one to 49 kilometres per hour over the posted limit.
Police say the accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Monday, July 20, 2026.
The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days under an Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension. The vehicle was also impounded for seven days.
OPP continue to remind drivers that impaired driving remains a serious safety risk on local roads. Police say anyone who suspects an impaired driver should call 911 when it is safe to do so.
The charges have not been proven in court.
