Dry conditions have prompted the Mississippi Mills Fire Department to raise the local burn risk to Level 3, considered a high risk category on June 2nd. The Ministry of Natural Resources has also issued an elevated forest fire danger rating for the region. Residents planning any outdoor burning are being urged to use extreme caution, avoid burning in windy conditions, and keep water or other extinguishing equipment close by.
An active 2026 burn permit is required for all open-air burning. Permit holders must also activate their permit before each burn. The department reminds residents that brush, drum and windrow fires are banned between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. through October 31.
