Fun in the Children's Steam Car!
The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario is welcoming visitors back with new improvements, family attractions and a stronger focus on accessibility.
Executive Director Becky Allan says one of the biggest changes this season starts before visitors even walk through the door.
Allan says the newly paved parking lot was made possible through an Ontario government accessibility grant. She says it makes the grounds safer, more welcoming and easier to enjoy for all guests.
The museum is also seeing strong response to its children’s steam car, which launched last year and continues to draw families, school groups and annual pass holders.
Another major attraction is the museum’s newly arrived Ottawa streetcar, number 696. Volunteers spent more than 20 years restoring the car before it came to Smiths Falls.
Allan says the streetcar is more than 90 per cent complete, with work continuing on windows, seats and future rides behind the museum’s number four engine.
Visitors are also encouraged to check out long-time favourites, including the dental car, the main waiting room and the 1899 dining car.
In addition to the rides, there are Father’s Day activities, the Hogwarts Express event in September and popular Christmas programming later in the year.
