A big Father’s Day fundraiser at the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario will put one of Smiths Falls’ strongest residents in the spotlight.
Board member Dawn Quinn says the museum is planning a busy day on Sunday, June 21, from 10am until 4pm with activities, a silent auction, sponsorship opportunities and one very heavy main attraction.
Smiths Falls decorated strongman Tim Norris will attempt to pull a 60,000-pound caboose at about 2:30 p.m.
The event is part of the museum’s “raise the roof” effort, with money going toward a new roof for the historic site.
Quinn says the need is real, and the fundraiser will help support an important project.
The event will also celebrate community spirit, local history and a hometown athlete who keeps stepping up for good causes.
Norris has taken on major strength challenges before, including pulling vehicles and doing charity lifts. He also recently placed first at Canadian Nationals in the men’s 50 to 59 division and fourth at the World Strength Games in Utah.
Norris says preparing for a major pull takes a unique kind of training.
For Norris, helping local causes has deep meaning. He says Smiths Falls is home, and representing the town matters to him.
Quinn says support like that helps the museum grow while reminding people what makes the site special.
The Father’s Day event is open to the community, with organizers hoping families, businesses and visitors come out for a fun day at the museum.
