Police have more about a collision that drew emergency crews’ and the public’s attention in Smiths Falls.
The Smiths Falls Police Service says officers were called just before 9:30 p.m. on May 30, 2026, after multiple 911 calls came in about a motor vehicle collision on Beckwith St.
Police, Lanark County Paramedic Services and Smiths Falls Fire all responded to the scene. When crews arrived, they found a single vehicle had been involved in the crash.
The collision caused damage to a nearby electrical transformer and took down a traffic light. Utility crews and Public Works were contacted and attended to deal with the damage and make sure the area was safe for the public.
Police say the driver was checked over and treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. The injuries were described as minor.
The investigation is now complete, and police say they have confirmed the driver suffered a medical episode before the crash.
No charges were laid.
Police have not released the driver’s name or further medical details.
The crash may have caught the attention of people in the area because of the emergency response and damage to public infrastructure. However, police say the matter has now been fully investigated.
The Smiths Falls Police Service says the response included work by police, paramedics, firefighters, utilities and public works staff to deal with the crash, support the driver and keep the area safe.
Police are thanking the public for calling 911 when the collision happened and for allowing emergency crews room to work at the scene.
