Pakenham is set to welcome hundreds of firefighters this Saturday as the Mississippi Mills Fire Department hosts the 114th Eastern Ontario Firefighters Association Games.
MMFD’s Kyle Sonnenberg is one of many making the games happen.
He says the games provide an oppotunity to unite through competition, as they normally would only see oneanother when providing assistance to a live call.
The opening ceremony is set for 8:30 a.m., with competition beginning at 9 a.m.
The long-running competition features high-energy events including hose coupling, bunker gear relays and the popular Chiefs Race. Sonnenberg says there’s also a race that goes striaght up.
The free event takes place behind the Stewart Community Centre and Sonnenberg says, offers something for the entire community.
A parade through the village begins at 7 p.m. near the Pakenham Highlands Golf Club, followed by awards and live music later in the evening.
The Games celebrate the skill, teamwork and community spirit of firefighters from across Eastern Ontario.
