Smiths Falls strongman Tim Norris says even he did not expect what happened at the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario on Father’s Day.
Norris, a Canadian Grandmasters Strongman, pulled a CP Rail caboose weighing more than 60,000 pounds as part of the museum’s “Raise the Roof” fundraiser to pay for a new roof. The caboose also carried RMEO Board Members Dawn Quin and a brakeman on board, adding to the challenge.
The attempt took place Sunday afternoon in front of a large crowd at the Smiths Falls museum. Norris had been hoping to move the massive caboose about 15 feet. Instead, he pulled it 83 feet, setting a new world record. He said he felt he good do it, early on in the pull.
Norris had just returned from the World Strength Games in Utah, held May 23 and 24, before taking on what organizers called the most monumental feat of his career.
The pull was part of the Father’s Day Strongman Event at RMEO. The day also included train rides, vendors, a Second World War military display, vintage cars, yard games and other family activities.
Norris said the record-setting result went far beyond what he had pictured before the attempt.
The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario is located on William Street West and is home to a major collection of rail equipment and local railway history.
Norris said supporting the museum matters to him because of what it means to the community.
Organizers billed the challenge as legendary, and Norris delivered a world-record result that those in attendance won’t soon forget.
