The Champions for Kids Foundation is getting ready to tee off in Smiths Falls, and organizers say the annual golf tournament is about much more than a day on the course.
The 19th annual Champions for Kids Golf Tournament takes place Friday, July 3, at the Smiths Falls Golf and Country Club.
Tracy Staples, co-chair of the tournament, says the Upper Canada District School Board charity has a strong place in her heart.
Champions for Kids was created in 2008 to help UCDSB students and families who need financial support. The goal is to give children fair access to activities and supports outside school.
Staples says money raised can help pay for things like eyeglasses, summer camps, sports registration, music, dance and art lessons. In some cases, the foundation has also helped families facing unexpected challenges.
The golf tournament is the foundation’s largest fundraiser.
Since 2008, Champions for Kids has raised more than $2.6 million.
Although the tournament is being held in Smiths Falls, Staples says support comes from across the school board, including schools, businesses, sponsors and community members.
Registration begins at 10 a.m., lunch is at 11 a.m., and the shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. Dinner, auctions, a 50/50 draw and on-course experiences follow.
