Brooke Henderson came within one playoff hole of adding another major title to her resume after a dramatic weekend at the Amundi Evian Championship in France.
The Smiths Falls golfer finished regulation tied with South Korea’s Haeran Ryu at 19-under-par, forcing a playoff on the par-five 18th hole.
Henderson began Sunday seven shots behind Ryu but charged into contention with a final-round 64. Her remarkable round included an eagle on the seventh hole, a hole-in-one on the par-three eighth and another eagle on 18 to force extra play.
She also fired a 64 Saturday, highlighted by two eagle chip-ins, to enter contention.
In the playoff, Henderson found trouble off the tee and was forced to lay up. Ryu reached the green in two and secured the championship with a birdie after Henderson was unable to chip in from off the green.
Henderson finished alone in second place and earned more than $835,000 US.
It was her second straight strong showing in a major after tying for third at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June.
