Smiths Falls is joining a nationwide celebration as the Royal Canadian Legion marks 100 years of service in Canada.
Branch 95 will host a community anniversary party Friday, July 17, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event is open to everyone, and admission is free.
Office administrator Peggy Ty-Bernicke says the evening will offer several reasons for residents to stop by.
Hamburgers, hot dogs and salads will be served, with donations accepted. The barbecue is expected to begin around 5:30 p.m.
The anniversary recognizes a century of supporting veterans and their families while building stronger communities. Ty-Bernicke says the Smiths Falls branch remains welcoming and active, with growing membership and new faces taking part.
The Legion supports the community through initiatives including a cooling centre, veterans’ breakfasts, Remembrance Day events and memorial projects.
Organizers say the celebration is a chance to honour the past, enjoy the present and look ahead to the Legion’s future in Smiths Falls.
