Smiths Falls native and 14-time LPGA Tour winner Brooke Henderson has announced her engagement to professional baseball pitcher Ricky Castro.
The couple shared the happy news on Instagram, revealing they became engaged on July 14. Their message described the engagement as “the beginning of forever” and thanked family, friends and fans for their warm wishes.
Henderson, 28, and Castro, 26, met by chance while practising at a golf club in Naples, Fla. They began dating in March 2025 and later made their relationship public on social media.
Castro is a right-handed pitcher in the Minnesota Twins organization. The Naperville, Ill., native is currently playing with the Triple-A St. Paul Saints. He previously played college baseball at Purdue University and Tulane University.
The engagement adds another memorable chapter to an impressive year for Henderson.
Brooke recently finished second in a playoff at the Amundi Evian Championship and tied for third at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. She also set an LPGA major championship record by making six eagles during the Evian tournament.
Henderson has won 14 LPGA Tour events, more than any other Canadian golfer. Her victories include two major championships: the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the 2022 Evian Championship. Her latest victory came on home soil at the 2025 CPKC Women’s Open in Mississauga. She is also a three-time Olympian.
The former Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute and Chimo Elementary student grew up learning the sport alongside her parents, Dave and Darlene Henderson, and her older sister Brittany at local courses, including her home club, The Smiths Falls Golf and Country Club.
Dave became Brooke’s longtime coach, while Brittany played professionally before becoming her sister’s caddie for most of Brooke’s historic LPGA career.
Brittany is married to former touring professional Zach Sepanik. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Sahalee, in June.
A wedding date for Henderson and Castro has not been announced.
