Environment and weather officials are warning that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms early this evening.
The strongest storms may bring damaging wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, quarter- to ping pong ball-sized hail, and torrential rainfall capable of producing more than 50 mm of rain in localized areas.
Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to be the primary threats. Areas that experience multiple thunderstorms could see rapid rainfall accumulation, leading to localized flooding. The greatest risk for damaging wind gusts is expected across southwestern Ontario.
Strong winds may result in power outages and could cause damage to roofs, fences, tree branches, and temporary structures.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather forecasts and be prepared to take shelter quickly if threatening weather approaches.
