The future of Otter Lake’s only public boat launch is expected to be a major topic of discussion when the Otter Lake Landowners Association holds its annual general meeting Saturday in Lombardy.
Association treasurer and director of membership Deb McVean said residents are looking for answers after Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources began stepping back from maintenance of the site.
The boat launch property is owned by the ministry, which has historically maintained the area and provided facilities such as a portable toilet.
McVean said the ministry is now withdrawing from those responsibilities, leaving uncertainty about who will manage the launch in the future.
The issue is particularly important for residents who own boats and for cottage owners on islands who rely on water access to reach their properties.
The association’s annual meeting will feature a presentation by guest speaker Karl Fiander, who is expected to provide an update on the latest discussions involving the launch and local governments.
McVean said the boat launch issue may attract more interest than other items on the agenda, including the proposed Alto high-speed rail project, because of its direct impact on lake residents.
The AGM will take place at the Ronald E. Holman Municipal Complex, with all Otter Lake residents invited to attend, whether they are members of the association or not.
The doors open at 9 a.m. with the meeting to begin at 9:30. Fiander is expected to begin his presentation at 11 a.m. All residents of Otter Lake are welcome, whether they’re members of the association or not.
