Perth’s fire chief says last week’s thunderstorms and power outages should serve as a reminder for residents to get prepared before the next emergency.
Trevor Choffe, Perth’s director of protective services and fire chief, says weather-related issues are becoming more common and can quickly lead to power problems across the region.
Choffe says the first step is not buying a kit, but making a plan. He says residents should think about where they live, whether they are near water or bush, whether they are prone to flooding, and how long they could be without power.
He says someone in town may see service restored sooner, while rural residents could face a longer wait.
Choffe says emergency kits should reflect each household’s needs, including water, medications, cash, pet supplies, and items for children or older relatives.
