With a new council comes a new strategic plan, and Smiths Falls is getting a running start at theirs early in the term.
A strategic plan is used as a guideline by councils for future decision making with the goal to complete everything on it over their term.
The last strategic plan included key items such as tackling affordable housing, attracting tourism, and improving the waterfront.
During a brief committee of the whole meeting this week, CAO Malcom Morris outlined the ideal timeline of the plan from the brainstorming phase to implementation.
They’re looking to gather the mayor and councillors together in mid-January to hear their ideas of what they’d like to see in the plan and patch together a rough outline of how it will look, before asking the public what they feel the next four years should look like.
Staff would then be tasked to determine the plans feasibility, with the hopes of having it done by April.
Morris reminded council that with the annual town budget of around $26 million, they’ll be asked to spend over $100 million in the next four years, so having a plan in place is more than a worthwhile investment.
