Rideau Lakes has received the final update to the Environmental Monitoring Report from the consultants who were hired to investigate any negative effects on water after Station in the village of Portland burned to the ground.
The first report found that the fire impacts were evident in the catch basing adjacent to the site, but no impacts were expected in the Big Rideau.
The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks requested another round of testing to confirm those results.
There’s good news: The follow up testing confirms there is no anticipated impact to Big Rideau Lake, and the groundwater supply does not appear to be adversely impacted.
The township is building a new station to replace No. 2 in Lombardy.
