There are some interesting enrolment numbers from the Upper Canada District School Board.
Superintendent Bill Loshaw provided trustees with an update that showed the spring projection of an increase of 584 students, is more likely north of 700 in reality.
3,245 students have been registered to attend a UCDSB school for the first time across all grades.
1,683 are Junior Kindergarten students, representing the highest number of Junior Kindergarten students reported since 2017. The other new kids on the elementary block have moved into the area or switched from another school board.
Increases in the board’s high schools come from international students, refugees, or like the elementary kids, moving into a new town or leaving another school board.
We also know that many families moved into the area over the course of the pandemic, accounting for part of the surge in both the younger and older grades.
