Earlier this week we told you the latest edition of Canada’s Food Price Report says food inflation isn’t going anywhere. It says proper food could cost an average family of four almost $1,100 more next year.
Executive Director of the Table Community Food Centre in Perth, Ramsey Hart says it is going to make it harder for those already in a tight spot.
Hart says the issue is much deeper that how much lettuce and other foods cost.
And he says the cost of food has people making tough decisions, like whether to buy food at all.
The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit costs out the price of food in what they call their Nutritious Food Basket. For a family of four the cost per year hit $1,109 per month. That worked out to just over $13,000 in 2021, below the predicted national average of $16,300 for 2023.
