We continue our look at each recommendation made by the Culleton, Kuzyk & Warmerdam inquest into intimate partner violence (or IPV).
Today we look at no. 14 which says: Create a “Universal RMS” records management system accessible by all police services (including federal, provincial, municipal, military and First Nations) in Ontario, with appropriate read/write access to all IPV stakeholders, including Probation, CFO, Crown’s offices, Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, correctional institutions and parole boards. Police services that wish to use their own RMS are to update IPV information into the Universal RMS.
Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says this recommendation focuses on communication .
Lee adds this is vital to providing a complete picture in IPV cases for all involved.
The recommendation is about ensuring everyone is on the same page when their are victims who are at risk to try to help them get to safety or prevent a violent re-occurrence, added Lee.
