It’s been a long time coming, but the Central Bridge in Carleton Place is finally open to traffic.
We caught up with Mayor Toby Randell on the phone as the grand opening was taking place. He said the new bridge was designed to fit in with the heritage feeling of the downtown area.
Local businesses can breathe a sigh of relief as traffic can once again flow as it did before construction began.
Town resident Debbie Turner who lives on the north side of the river and attended the opening was looking forward to easier travel times.
The ceremonial first vehicle across was carrying Dave Young, a former Public Works Manager for the town and Josh Sturgess from Louis Bray Construction. In the back of the Truck, say Mayor Randell, and fittingly Santa Claus, celebrating the early Christmas gift.
