Condolences are pouring in from police services across the country after an OPP officer was shot and died later in hospital south of Hamilton.
Lanark County OPP and the Smiths Falls Police Service and many indivdual officers have expressed their sorrow and condolences to the officer’s detachment, his family and community.
Smiths Falls Police said in a statement, “We are so saddened to hear about another tragedy involving an officer killed in the line of duty. Our prayers to the family of Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala, his colleagues and all the OPP members.”
OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk made the difficult announcement last night.
Greg Pierzchala was fatally shot while responding to a vehicle in a ditch near Hagersville and died in hospital.
Sanchuk spoke about his fallen colleague.
The fallen officer had been on the force for just over a year, and had just been told hours earlier that he had passed his 10-month probation period. He also had formerly served in the military.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the shooting. An update on charges is expected to follow.
It is with an extremely heavy heart that I regretfully advise that #OPP Provincial Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala was killed today while courageously serving in the line of duty. Our hearts are with his loved ones and all OPP members at this tragic time. #HeroesInLife pic.twitter.com/6m5Q1jiYQP
