Bandstand option included in the Town of Smiths Falls report
After a deal of uncertainty with rising construction costs, the bandstand will be coming to Smiths Falls after all.
The idea of the bandstand came from the late Tom Foulkes, who put up tens of thousands of dollars himself to honour his predeceased wife Pat.
But rising construction costs put the project at risk as tender bids were past the $1 million and change budget set through Foulkes’ contribution and grant funding.
Enter Chris Samure of Saumure Group of Companies and Scott Fleming of Rideau Home Hardware Building Centre, who’ve agreed to build the bandstand on an at cost basis.
A huge break for the taxpayer, says CAO Malcom Morris.
Councillor Jay Brennan says his friend Foulkes is smiling down on them.
The bandstand will be the centre piece of downtown in between the library and town hall. The base has already been built and put in place.
