A scam making the rounds in Perth is using Mayor Judy Brown’s name to try to dupe people out of their money.
One potential victim of the scam sent Lake 88 a string of emails from someone claiming to be Mayor Judy Brown, asking the target to purchase gift cards as a favour. A promise of full repayment plus 20% interest is promised for the following day.
Don’t do it. It’s not Mayor Brown.
The Mayor is urging people to be cautious. She tells Lake 88 if you receive an email make sure the sender is verified. She turns to the old adage if it’s too good to be true it like is.
If you get one of the emails delete it. You can also report it to the Canadian Anti-fraud centre at 1-888-495-8501.
If you fall for it, let your local police know.
