We continue our look at each recommendation made by the Culleton, Kuzyk & Warmerdam inquest into intimate partner violence.
Today we look at no. 17, which asks the province to establish clear guidelines regarding the flagging of perpetrators or potential IPV victims in police databases, immediate dispatch and police access to the identities and contact information of potential targets, and how to notify those targets.
Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says it’s a vital part of making a change to eradicate IPV.
Lee adds that several measures are in place in Lanark County to ensure proper communication is in place, but it can be improved. She says sometime victims or survivors don’t see the potential risk to be targeted again, and just want to move on. Making sure they understand the risk is a key.
Lee says this is about protecting all involved from potential re-offenders.
