More funding is being provided to expand Mental Health Services for Children and Youth across the province of Ontario.
Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health noted that mental health is at the forefront of many conversations, and one of the most important things to do is to listen.
4.75 million-dollars is being invested to expand the “One Stop Talk” virtual “walk-in” counselling program, which connects youth to a clinician by phone, video conference, text and chat without an appointment.
The “One Stop Talk” program began as a pilot in November 2022 with six participating mental health organizations. It is now being expanded to additional organizations and their waitlisted patients.
Michael Tibollo, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, noted that over the last three years there has been an increase in youth suffering with their mental health.
To date, the provinces Roadmap to Wellness has provided $525 million to improve the quality and access to mental health supports while shortening wait times and removing gaps in service.
Another option for children and youth in Lanark County is Open Doors. They can be reached at 613-264-1415, or at www.opendoors.ca.
