Some children’s hospitals and health organizations in Ontario are asking for 371-million dollars in the upcoming provincial budget because they say they desperately need to tackle surgical, clinical and diagnostic wait lists.
The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario serves our surrounding area and dealt with overwhelming demand last fall.
The request comes just days after Ottawa laid out its offer of a one-time cash boost of two-billion dollars for provinces and territories to use as they see fit.
Premiers have agreed to accept the deal and a spokesperson for Ontario says it is considering the request from local hospitals.
The federal government says it is prioritizing pediatric hospitals that need help after respiratory viruses applied pressure to them in the fall.
