A decision on the Andrewsville Bridge has been deferred to a future meeting.
Lanark County council had a healthy debate around what the future may hold for the bridge during a Public Works presentation last week, and a delegation by the Friends of the Andrewsville Bridge group.
County councilor Rob Rainer explained why he wanted a deferral.
Public Works recommends converting the Montague bridge to pedestrian-only at a cost of $50,000, but public consultation has shown the majority of taxpayers want vehicle access, including the Township of Montague itself.
County councillor and Montague Deputy Reeve Jeff Carroll wants to ensure their voices are heard because they’ve done the most research.
The bridge currently has vehicle access, but is closed each year for pedestrian-only travel from December 1 to March 31st.
It’s a designated boundary bridge, meaning it’s jointly maintained by United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, who also deferred a decision during their meeting last week.
