The Ontario Provincial Police say there were 359 motor vehicle fatalities in 2022, a strong uptick from 315 the prior year.
Not only that, but total collisions jumped 20% to a total of 74,172.
The OPP say there’s a high compliance rate in the province with seatbelt use, but there’s been an increase in fatalities which could’ve been avoided had they been worn.
Motor vehicle deaths associated with alcohol or drugs doubled in 2022, up to 64 from 32, while there were slight increases in deaths caused by speed and inattentiveness.
