A 40-year-old woman from Ottawa Valley faces animal cruelty charges after 38 dogs were found in what the head of a local rescue agency described as “traumatizing” conditions.
Ontario Provincial Police say officers responded to a home in Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Township, about 90 minutes west of Sharbot Lake, Tuesday afternoon and discovered the dogs.
Police called Laura Pelkey, the president and founder of Riverview Rescues, who says she reacted with “horror and disgust” at what she found on the property.
Pelkey says she rescued 22 of the dogs that day and returned twice more last week to get the rest.
