Smiths Falls Welcomes Ukraine is entering its second year of assisting war refugees settle into the town.
But new challenges arise as time’s running out at the homes of the host families as they’ve agreed to house them between six months to a year.
Chair Dr. Mark Czubak says their focus is on shoring up their future.
Czubak says some families who have business ties may return one day, while others opt to stay.
Czubak says some host families may be open to extending the stay while others may not, but it’s not a permanent solution regardless.
